I’ll be producing a sci-fi fantasy pulp serial here.
What’s pulp, you say?
Pulp magazines (often referred to as "the pulps") were inexpensive fiction magazines that were published from 1896 to the late 1950s. The term "pulp" derives from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. The pulps gave rise to the term pulp fiction in reference to run-of-the-mill, low-quality literature. Pulps were the successors to the penny dreadfuls, dime novels, and short-fiction magazines of the 19th century.
Modern superhero comic books are sometimes considered descendants of "hero pulps"; pulp magazines often featured illustrated novel-length stories of heroic characters, such as Flash Gordon, The Shadow, Doc Savage, and The Phantom Detective.
So this Substack will center around an adventure story inspired by Uncharted, Porco Rosso, Castle In The Sky, The Mummy, & Pirates of The Caribbean. If you’re looking for an adventure series, then this is the Substack for you.
The target audience for Azure Epoch is those who enjoy shonen anime like Last Exile, Spriggan (both the 1998 movie and the Netflix anime), and the anime Radiant. It’s also geared toward lovers of JRPGs, especially mid-90’s JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7 & 8, and more modern JRPGs like Tales of Vesperia. The target for Azure Epoch are for those who grew up playing Uncharted, watching pulp-adventure movies like The Mummy, Tomb Raider, or Raiders of the Lost Ark.
